Using the Collection
Items from our collection
may be used in two ways. All reference materials are non-circulating and
may be used in the archive only. Original recordings (those for which
cassette or CD listening copies have not been generated) also may not
leave the premises. We have a listening station available for you to listen
on-site to more modern formats, including LP, cassette and CD. Older or
more fragile formats, such as cylinders, will need to be transferred to
modern media before they can be used for listening.
If you need to use
one of our recordings outside of the archive for academic purposes, including
for teaching, class presentations, or extended listening, we can generate
a listening copy for you. Listening copies may be borrowed, in limited
numbers, for up to two weeks. Please allow from one to three business
days for a listening copy to be generated.
Patron copying of
recordings is not allowed, and all copying work at Belfer is done within
the limits of U.S. copyright law and SU Library policy. Individuals borrowing
listening copies from the archive are responsible for being familiar with
and following relevant copyright and fair-use laws. Any personal (i.e.,
non-academic) use of recordings from our collection requires payment of
re-recording fees as well as any applicable copyright fees or royalties.
