The Syracuse Univ

ersity Library's collection on South Asia considered one of the best in the East Coast, enhances and supports the SU's South Asian Studies related area programs, the most distinct among them being the program on South Asia at the South Asia Center. An integral part of SU's Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, located in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, the South Asia Center is also a part of the National Resource Center for the US Department of Education. Supported in part by federal grants, the Center directly promotes scholarly research, the teaching of languages, and the sharing of expertise through a variety of programs and publications.

The Center participates in collaboration with Cornell University to form a consortium with a focus on the research and scholarship of the countries in the South Asia region. The South Asia Center coordinates a variety of colloquia, films, cultural programs, and other activities for the Syracuse University community as well as for faculty and students at nearby colleges.

South Asian Studies area programs bring together faculty members from such departments as Anthropology, Architecture, Communications & Rhetorical studies, Education, Fine Arts, Language, Literature, and Linguistics, History, International Relations, Law, Political Science, and Religion.
